GM-GMC: actuating pushrod (replacing fuel pump), wheel bearing grease, pink wire

Question
I have a 1985 Scottsdale C-10 305 v-8. When replacing the fuel pump the actuating pushrod slid into the down position how can I get to the up postion to put the fuel pump in.

Answer
Disconnect the pink wire (power) at the distributor.

Bump the engine with the starter until you can push the pushrod back into the hole.  This makes it much easier to install the fuel pump.

It will slide back down due to gravity, but coat it with some wheel bearing grease and that will hold it in place while you install the fuel pump.

Reconnect the power wire at the distributor.
