GM-GMC: brakelight switch, brake light switch, chevy pickup

Question
How can you change out the brake light switch on a 95 chevy pickup, when I had the dash tore down to nothing ( had the speedometer and all the gauges out of the truck and still couldn't even see the switch let alone reach it? What am I doing wrong? It looks like its boxed in with the steering column mount.I'd really hate to have to drop the column to get to it. That seems like a problem waiting to happen. Any light you can shed on the subject would be very helpful. Thanks

Answer
If you cannot get to the switch from the pedal side, the steering column will have to come off its upper mounts and be dropped down for access.

On most vehicles, it is simply a matter of loosening the bracket nuts, one on each side of the column and lowering the column until it stops.

Just be sure not to allow the column to hang by any wires, nor pinch any wires putting it back into position.
