GM-GMC: scottsdale instement panel, gauge cluster, fuse panel

Question
I have an 1983 scotts and the entire instrement panel quit on it the speedometer dont work and nothing else works in the panel if you have any ideas or suggestions please write back! thank you for your time Mr. jacobson

Answer
For the gauges, there are two likely problems:

The first, and easiest, is that the fues supplying power to them is bad.  It is located in the fuse panel by the parking brake.  This may be the case if all gauges do not work.

The second problem has to do with the connector GM uses that plugs into the back of the gauge cluster.  It is not well designed and the contacts may be oxidized or not touching.  To check it, the gauge cluster has to be removed from the dashboard.

The speedometer problem is likey a broken cable.  You should loosen the end at the back of the transmission and try turning the cable both ways while someone watches the speedometer.  No movement may be a bad cable.  The clip on the back of the speedometer is hard to reach and requires pulling the gauge cluster forward.  It could also be a bad speedometer and you might find one at a local salvage yard.
