GM-GMC: backup lights, speedometer.odometer, and speed sensor buffer part 2., vehicle speed sensor, mechanical speedometer

Question
Harry, thanks for your prompt answer to my first ? I neglected to tell you that my '93 chevy silverado c1500 6 cyl. short wheel base was a 5 speed manual transmission (not automatic) Not mechanical speedometer, but electric/electronic vehicle speed sensor which feeds into buffer according to haynes manual. while troubleshooting reverse lights, the 2 wire connector was accidently shorted out, and now no speedometer. fuses ok. Thanks again.

Answer
The VSS should be an electronic substitute for the mechanical cable and should be located on the transmission.  Since you have two wheel drive, the only sensors on the transmission should be the VSS and the reverse switch.

It may look like the part in this URL:

NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLE OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL.

However, from your description, it sounds like the buffer and/or speedometer may have been damaged by the short.

I do not have any experience with digital speedometers, so I am only guessing.  I am sorry that I can not help you beyond the guess.
