GM-GMC: GMC 1993 Sonoma Vortex Engine, spidar, compression check

Question
My truck died on me while i was driving, we found that it is not getting a spark to the spark plugs. We replaced the coil and checked the module in the distributor. The truck will turnover but will not start. Do you have any suggestions as to what we look at next? Thank You. We had the fuel spidar and fuel pump replaced recently and had a full tune up less than a year ago. It has 160,000. miles

Answer
Do you have spark now?  If so, check the fuel system.

No spark?  Keep working on the ignition system.  I would suspect the HEI module since a bad coil usually ruins the module as well.

The third element required is compression.  If you have spark and fuel getting to the cylinders, then a compression check is in order.  At 160,000 miles, the timing chain can jump on V-6 and V-8 engines and cause them not to start.
