GM-GMC: U-joints, reputable shop, retaining clips

Question
95 S-10 extended cab LS. I need to replace the center u-joint on the driveshaft. I have taken off the retaining clips, but still can't get the joint out. I have beat on it for an hours, tried heating the collars and no luck. Is there something I have missed? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Roger,

You can beat on the shafts all you want, all you'll acomplish is damaging the shaft. A reputable shop will use a Ball-Joint type press to get your u-joints out. If they have never been replaced GM "Locks" them in place melting plastic into a grove that you can't see till the joint is out. In some extreem cases I have seen the shafts heated to remove this "Lock". Hope this helps
