GM-GMC: 96C1500 crank sensor resitance, crank sensor, chev truck

Question
What would be the resistance of the crank position
sensor on a 96 Chev truck, vin engine code"R"??
When I checked mine, I get open circit reading
between term A & B. The truck came in with no tach
signal, the ignition module has been replaced, and
the hall effect sensor tested ok.

Answer
If I remember right the crank sensor in the 96 engines is a two wire sensor which makes it a hall effect sensor as well. Meaning it will not have continuity unless the notch of the crankshaft tone wheel is actually close or completly in between the sensor magnets. There are usually no resistance specs for these sensors. The best test for these sensors is a Lab Scope or Snap-on Vantage using a "Waveform Viewer". Plug in the sensor, read and black lead on opposing wires. Wire color does not matter since you are looking for a signal between the two. crank the engine and you should get a clean analog sign wavefrom on your meter. I will double check for a resistance spec on MON. Let me know how you make out. Hope this helps a bit....
