Honda: My Honda CR-V Failed An Aircare Test, sway bar links, vancouver bc canada

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1997 Honda CR-V, and the problem is when the CR-V drives over small potholes, it makes a rattling sound. Could it be the struts or is it something else. Thanks.

ANSWER:  Is the noise from the front on the CR-V? If so, the noise is most likely the sway bar links or sway bar bushings.

QUESTION: I have a 1997 Honda CR-V, and the problem is when the CR-V drives over small potholes, it makes a rattling sound. You suggested that it was the Sway Bar Links or Sway Bar Bushings, and we got it checked, and they said that the Sway Bar Links and the Sway Bar Bushings were both in good condition and they were fine. Could it be the Struts or is it something else.

ANSWER:  It could be struts or something else but you have described a VERY common complaint that is properly diagnosed by removing the sway bar. If the noise goes away replace the links and bushings. I would not troubleshoot any farther until you know the sway bar was completely off of the car and the noise was still there.

QUESTION: I have a 1997 Honda CR-V, and I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and we have Aircare tests to look at the emissions the cars have and when we took it there, they tested it by moving the car on the spinners and they drove it, and when they drove it, the problem was that the Carbon Monoxide should be 9.3200, but it was 24.1739. We changed the Spark Plugs, Wires, Distributor Cap, Rotor, we changed the Air Filter and we put in a bottle of the fuel injector cleaner, but it still failed. Do you think it could be the Catalytic Converter or is it something else? Thank You Very Much.

Answer
I am truly trying to be helpful. Has your first question and problem been resolved?

I would have your technician check the MAP sensor's voltage readings while at idle. Also monitor the O2 sensor readings.  A skilled technician will be able to diagnose your concern with the live data list readings and his/her knowledge. With the CO (carbon monoxide) reading too high I'd suspect your car of having a code in the PCM that will help with giving some direction in the troubleshooting process.
