Honda: Ignition. Hard start, honda parts, american honda

Question
Recently, my 99 Accord EX Coupe 5spd manual, had stalling problems related to the fuel switch underneath the dashboard on the driver's side. Something about age, and heat, and the car not running for it.

This was an easy fix for about $50, saving me about $500s to replace a starter as recommended by my local Honda Dealer (Cary, NC)...

So, now, couple of months later, my car is hard-starting. It is a problem similar to the switch before, in that the car does not start. However, this time, the car doesn't turn over (it did before, but never caught - like you're out of gas).

Now, however, the starter clicks, but doesn't engage the fly. No turning over...

However, if I flip my key over, or wiggle it about, it starts right up. This makes me think of the ignition recall that the automatics had a couple of years ago. Is this a similar problem, that the contacts are wearing out and not allowing something to do something to turn the car over? And that my wiggling the key fixes it?

I guess my question is, is this an ignition switch problem, or a starter problem, like the Honda mechanic suggested few months ago.

Thanks,

Terry Watts

Answer
Hi Terry, two separete problems,If the battery has a good charge, the cables are clean and tight and the starter just clicks no matter what you do until it finally cranks over and starts its pretty much gotta be your starter.Im glad you took your car to your dealer, you can trust them.Your car does fall into safety recall #02-031 by year and model but it is v.i.n. specific and you would have been sent a letter from american honda if your was affected.Your dealer can run your v.i.n. just to be sure.   Remember, always buy Honda parts....you pay more but its worth it in the long run.    thanks for your question,Ray
