Honda: 1987 Honda Accord door ajar beeping, pilot error, grey button

Question
Hi,
After my 87 Accord hatchback is turned on, no one can open the passenger or driver side door. The beeping alert starts, and it won't stop when the door is shut. It will only stop when the car is turned off. Occasionally, through some combination of staying in gear and hitting the grey button on the shifter (automatic) while the door is being opened, it won't start, but that's not consistent. It's quite annoying when I'm picking up and dropping off friends. Any advice?

Answer
your doors are probably sagging badly and are not closing very well.I bet they are hard to open without a good yank and hard to close without slamming them(drivers side worse of course)common problem,if this is the case you will need to adjust the hinges NOT the striker(remember, the door came down, the striker did'nt go up)after you get the doors to close correctly they will probably open from the inside again too, make sure they close fully(no more than 2 mm sticking out at rear edge)lastly, but not least, make sure the switch in the door jam is working(does it turn the dome light off when slid toward center of car?)after you got all that stuff right I bet your door and beeeper problems will be gone.as for your intermittent no start problem...pilot error, why are you trying to start the car while OPENING the door anyway?   let me know.....ray
