Hyundai: Sonata, sonota, xg300

I purchases a stanza(91) in 90.  The perfect car no major problems with 154,000 and still running. I wish to purchase a car just like it almost maintainance free. I am looking into the realiability rate on the Hyundai Sonanta or XG300, not much on this car.  Considering the XG300 coming out this fall.  I know that this is not a Honda but from what I`ve read, the Sonota competes well since the redesign.  Please be straight about this car.  My brother purchase a new GM and has had nothing but trouble with it. Don`t want to fall into the same trap.  Thanks for your help

I don't have much experience with the Sonata.  A friend of mine bought a 99 model with the 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed transmission.  She has about 12k miles on it and hasn't had a single problem with it.  It rides pretty nice and handled better than I thought it would.  The engine gets a bit noisy when you put the pedal down, but that usually happens with the value priced cars.  I'm 6ft and the seats were pretty comfortable, but not too soft.

If it's not an immediate purchase I'd wait till the new XG comes out.  I've heard good things about it.  But that's all heresay.
