Hyundai: reliability, hyundai elantra, hyundai cars

Question
I am considering buying a used Hyundai Elantra GLS wagon - there is not a specific year I am set on, but it will most likely be 96 or 97. I have been reading different comments about Hyundai, and most people seem pretty pleased with their cars, but they are all new (within the past couple of years) owners. I have not found many comments from people who have owned their car for more than 80xxx miles, but have read opinions that say Hyundai cars are not very reliable after about 80xxx-90xxx miles. Because of their quality, etc (evidenced in their price) they are not long lasting cars, and it would be better to buy a Honda or Toyota (the only problem with that is they don`t make wagons anymore) - they cost more, but last longer. Do you know anything about this problem, or the history of these cars? I would greatly appreciate any information you have. Thank you.

Answer
I'd like to help you with this p[roblem but I don't have that kind of info.  You best bet would be to talk to people who own an Elantra already.

If you visit http://www.t-h-c.org and post a message in their Elantra forum I'm sure you'll be able to find quite a few good pointers.

If it were me I'd go for it, as from about 1995 and upwards the quality of Hyundai's engines and drivetrains has improved quite a bit.
