Mazda: 1992 Mazda 626 wont start, mazda 626, battery test

Question
Three days ago, my 1992 Mazda 626 ran beautifully.  Three days ago, it would not start.  It would not even turn over.  When I turned the key in the ignition, I got nothing.  No response whatsoever.  A battery test indicated a dead battery, so I jump-started my car.  This afternoon, I attempted to jump-start it again, and it would not start.  I replaced the battery with a brand new one, and the car will still not start.  I am wondering what the reason might be.
I am also wondering why it is not possible for me to get my car into neutral.  My car is an automatic transmission, and will shift from park to drive, neutral, reverse, etc while the engine is running, but will not budge from park if the engine is cold.  How do I get it into neutral to be towed?
Thank you,
Erin

Answer
E.  normally when you can not get your car out of park it is because you have moved the steering wheel when the car was shut off.  Hold the key with pressure and move the steering wheel back and forth until it releases.  This will normally unlock the shifter.  If this does not work then I do not know how to help.  Best of luck.  Bud
