Mercedes: 1986 Mercedes 190E Leak, automatic transmission fluid, wheel hub

Question
I have a 1986 Mercedes 190E 2.3 that has a fluid leak from the engine area. I have asked a garage to check it out a few times and they say they have fixed it--but it still drips on the floor in the garage. The car has 89,000 miles on it and is not driven too often. Any ideas how I can pin down the cause? Thanks

Answer
Jim,
I mis-read your email. I though you had a fuel leak. Just follow the remaining instructions for finding the leak.

Operate the engine long enough to create the leak and mark the position of the drip on the pavement in relation to the front wheel hub center-line.
You will need to raise the vehicle in order to get under and determine the exact spot that it is dripping. Standard precautions, safety stands etc. apply.
Look for moisture on the line  and try to determine the exact spot. If the fitting is a wrench tight nut, then you may be able to hold the unit and re-torque the nut.
You may have a shaft seal leak. It could be power steering fluid, clear. or Automatic transmission fluid Red.

Good Luck and let me know what you find out.
