Mercedes: Inner Tire Rods, michelin pilot sport, wheel bearings

Question
Hi, I have some wear on both front tires on the inside and was told it could be Inner Tire Rods...is this true. I was thinking I need an alignment because I am getting some pulling & shaking on the highway. I have a 2000 E430. I also hear a clicking sound when I turn my wheel & thought it could be bearings. Oh 1 more thing...what type of tires are best for a Mercedes?

Answer
Tania,
Toe out could cause your problem, and that can be a result of bad tie rods. Or other worn suspension parts can cause it as well. You did not indicate how many miles or when the front shocks were replaced last.
I would locate an independent front end alignment shop that know how to do the Mercedes. It should be a four wheel laser system. However, before you have it aligned, I would have the tires replaced and balanced. Also have them check for a bent rim. The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires because they are M&S (mud and snow) rated, as well as Y speed rated for use up to 168 MPH.

The new tires will cause the vehicle to sit properly on the alignment machine. You should see immediate improvement in handling and tracking. However do not wait too long to have the aligment done as the tires will begin to ware immediately.
Tell the front in tech to check for any loose or worn parts. If you need new components, and they do not do the install, ask if they will defer the alignment until the parts are replace and realign the vehicle at no additional charge. The find an independent shop to replace the worn parts. I would also have them check the wheel bearings for make sure they are not too loose or tight.
Good Luck, Let me know if you have additional questions and what you discover.
