Mercedes: Mercedes Benz 1979 Key Ignition Problem, mercedes shop, screw driver

Question
I am having trouble turning the key to start the engine.  I place the key in the key hole, try to turn it from position 1 to start and it won't budge.  The wheel is locked and even when i try to turn the wheel and then turn the key it still won't move.  I can feel it lock up as soon as i turn it only about an 8th of an inch.  Is there anything i can do to get this key to turn or will it need some type of repair?

Answer
Crystal,
Take a can of WD40 with the spray straw. While using a small screw driver to hole open the entry door,if there is one, squire some lubricant into the tumbler assembly.
Then Take your key and insert it gently several times. Each time shake the key slight as you insert it.
Once you have done this several times, While moving the steering wheel back and to. Try turning the key.
what you are trying to do is get a set of pins that ride on the serrated key edge to move in alignment and allow the tumbler barrel to rotate in the housing.
If this does not work, I would ask around an independent Mercedes shop if they know a good lock smith.
Otherwise, you may be able to fine a replacement lock on EBAY, and a reasonable price.
Good Luck and let me know how it turns out.
