Mercedes: lights, type fuses, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: My left rear lights bulbs have all been replaced but the back lights only show when i put on breaks or my turn signal. when my lights are on the lr running light doesn't come on. the light bulb symbol is lit on the dash console. I recently took my car in but it worked while it was at the shop but now no. Help!

ANSWER: Dianne,
It sound as though you have a loose ground or loose bulb. or a loose filament. I would look for a burned fuse first. Sometimes separate fuses are used for the running lights. I would check the fuse for the parking light circuit. I would recheck the bulbs. Some bulbs have two filaments, one for running lights and for turn signal.
Good Luck and let us know how it comes out.

QUESTION: Thank you very much for your quick response. Does the 1991 300td have more than one fuse box? I've checked all the fuses and they are intact..does it matter which amp the bulbs are? I'm sorry to have to ask but I've never had a manual with this car.

Answer
Diane,
Yes it is important that the bulb number match the original, as the circuit is designed to draw a particular amperage in order for your sensors on the system to operate properly.
I believe this car has only one fuse box. If you have the knife type fuses they are easily checked for outage. If it is a cylinder fuse then sometimes thy break at the end. You may also want to clean the holder clips.
I would check each bulb to make sure there is good contact within the socket. If the bulb is clear look through to be sure the the bulb is good.
I believe that the fuse circuit for tail lights has two separate fuses. A fuse for each side.
Good Luck
