Answer
Hello Sherry,
As the ole saying goes. "A vehicle is worth what every someone is willing to pay." ;-))..

Given the present auto market for all brands, the Mercedes market for that age vehicle. I would expect that if you could get 2500 you would be doing well.
However, I would first check the classifieds for the same model and year vehicle to get a better idea about your market area.

If you go to the National Auto Dealers Association NADA site, or just type in vehicle price estimator,  you may be able to insert your vehicle information to get their book price.
It will usually offer a retail, private sale, and wholesale price.

It will as for some data and provide an estimated price for your car.
There are many items that will determine the final purchase price, the least of which is the emotional thoughts of the purchaser.
From my experience related with my 420SEL, I would be hesitant to sell the vehicle to a friend or relative, unless they thoroughly understand the cost involved with parts and upkeep on these vehicles.
The replacement parts prices are well out of line with the retail value of these vehicles.
Good Luck, let me know if you have additional questions.
