Mercedes: oil filter, mercedes e320 wagon, napa autoparts

Question
we just bought a mercedes e320 wagon awd-where is the oil filter located. Also on top of the engine there is a filter,or look likes a filter???thanks Jorge

Answer
Jorge,
Not sure of your year model, but I expect that the vehicle uses a canister and element filter rather that the screw on cartridge. You can got to NAPA autoparts or similar parts house, and ask for the filter kit for your year model E320.
It will include the filter cartridge and an "O"ring.
Look for the canister That will be near the front of the engine or have hoses going to the engine, and it will have a lid with a hex head bolt, I am not sure the millimeter size. With a socket and ratchet, loosen the bolt and the lid will release.
The bolt will be about 4 or five inches long as it center through the filter element.
Using a catch pan and or rag, reach down and pull out the filter element preparing for drips and discard.
Drop in the new element and take a quart of the new oil gently pouring into the canister until the element is saturated. Watch of not over flow the canister.
Replace the "o" ring on the lid and reinstall in reverse order. Tighten the hold down bolt and completer the oil change.
Be sure to check that the pan plug has been replace before adding new oil. (voice of experience speaking)
Start the engine and check of leaks.
Good Luck
Let us know how it turns out.
