Mercedes: C220 CDI Auto diesel, auto diesel, engine manifold

Question
I have just bought C220 CDI registration Jul 2002. When ignition on and running I have exhaust like fume smell in the car and this is worse when the heater is on. Any idea what this could be?

Thanks,

Ash

Answer
Hello Ash,
There is a good chance that you have an exhaust leak. It is very important that you have the system thoroughly check out for leaks, as carbon monoxide can cause loss of consciousness and death.
Because it is particularly noticeable when the heat is on, I would suspect the exhaust header where the exhaust pipe connect to the engine manifold or a failed manifold gasket.

Let us know what you find out..
Good Luck
