Mercedes: Buying a 1985 380SL, 380sl, mechanical expertise

Hi Whunter,
I'm thinking of buying a 1985 380SL. It has 129k miles on it, and has been California owned throughout. The asking price is $7500. I am looking to use it as a daily driver, and have little or no mechanical expertise. Any words of wisdom for me? Should i stay away?

If the car is perfect, plan on spending $3,000.00 in your first year.
If you are in a snow state, double that figure for a daily driver.

If you still want the car, get a PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection, the following link should have a shop near the car, that will do a PPI.
