Mercedes: Starter on a 1985 380sl, 380sl, extension 3

Question
what is the easiest way to remove the starter on my 380sl.  Are there just 2 bolts holding it in?  How do I get to the top one?

One last questions- would the starter starting to go bad make it act like the battery dying ( slow cranking, unusual noises)?  when i first had the problem the battery was checked and charged -2 days later, same problem.

thanks!

Answer
DANGER:
Disconnect battery and cables from starter; BEFORE you start removing starter bolts.

A 3/8 drive swivel + three foot long extension + 3/8 to 1/2 drive adapter, and a long 1/2 inch drive ratchet.
The car will need to be on four jack stands, because you access it near the rear of transmission.
Please keep children away, split knuckles and strong language are common on this job.

Bad alternator not charging battery, bad battery and/or bad starter will do this.
Have a great day.
