Mercedes: 1985 Mercedes Benz 380 SL, mercedes benz 380, la freeways

Question
I found a great deal on an 80's Mercedes- $1,800 in "great condition" and 136,000 miles. It has new tires, new emission system and new air con. Is this a good deal, or too good to be true? What kind of problems can I look for? I'm trying to find a sytlish upgrade from my '62 Buick. Would this Mercedes be good on the busy, congested LA freeways and a nice daily driving car? Or can I expect an easy overheat?
Thanks so much!

Answer
You need a good PPI = Pre Purchase Inspection.
Your local Mercedes dealer can do this.
The cost of inspection can save you from buying a money pit = worn out junk.

1985 Mercedes Benz 380 SL is a very nice car, if it is in good condition, but if the maintenance has not been kept up, it can be expensive to put back into proper condition.

With the age + miles; I would replace the radiator + hoses + thermostat, if it where my car.

My 1985 300SD with 250,000 miles on it is a daily driver, love it, style, power, diesel, and nobody mistakes it for anything but a Mercedes Benz.

Warning:
Mercedes Benz is an addiction.
