Question
----
I've found the right pages- Thank you.
One last question; the information leans toward my getting the ignition key to the first position, If I'm not able to, is drilling my only resort?

again,  many thanks.

Question -
The ignition lock cylinder is jammed.
Can I bore out the cylinder? if so, how?
Answer -
My suggestion is take it to the dealer.
It is possible to get it out, but it is not a nice or fun job for anyone.
From the sound of it, you need the lock unit, the intermediate shaft and the tumbler assembly.
Best guess = 6 - 14 hours + massive scrapes and scratches, if you have never done a Mercedes ignition lock.
If you still want to do it, send another note.
Answer -
Sorry it is taking so long to answer this question.
The Lock Cylinder replacement link I generally use is dead.
I am looking for another, you need the pictures.
This will take at least 24 hours more, due to time pressure.

Have a great day.

Read the whole page.

The remove and replace is also on this page.
You need to read much of the page information, the pictures will help also.

If you can turn the key, R&R will take fifteen minutes.

Answer
Yes.
Your only option would be drilling and grinding.
That is why it is a last resort.
The console must come apart to access the lock mech for drilling, there is very little space to work and it is easy to damage other things.
Spray it with lock graphite lube, vibrate it as much as possible and hope it turns.
