Mercedes: Mercedes Diesels., mercedes diesel, old mercedes

Question
Hello Ian D:  I don`t know if this is the correct
forum in which to ask this question ...But-It had
been suggested that if one wanted a reliable, long term and inexpensive car  they should buy a 10 to 15 year old Mercedes diesel, with less that 150,000 miles on the odometer, and in good condition, for abour $4,000,and keep it for 400,000 miles or more.  They
are no more expensive to repair, and need less repairs that other cars of that age, and will last
indefinately.
This sounds good in theory and  you WOULD be
driving a Mercedes.  From your knowledge is this
a valid argument, and could one save on long term transportation doing this, and what would be the
downside?
Thanks for any response.

Answer
Dear Bill,
Sorry it took me so long to awnser you. I belive that older mercedes diesels have long lifespans also. When looking to purchase one be sure to check for rust. The down side to diesels is that they polute and are noisy. Also make sure you have the mercedes checked out by a certifed mercedes machanic before you buy the car. I wouldnt garrentee you that the car will run for 400,000 miles. I would have to say 300,000 and maybe 350,000. Hope this helps your decision.
Thanks,
Ian D.
