Mitsubishi: 2006 mitsu shift fork, clutch plate, clutch pedal

Question
they said that the clutch is pretty much destroyed... i dunno i have about 20000 miles on it and i have not raced it, nor have i added any performance parts its just odd to me i was wondering your opinion if i should escalate this...or any suggestions you may have to help me get this resolved with out paying...they want about 793 for the flywheel and 440 for the clutch...they said it all needs to be replaced?

-----Question-----
i have a 2006 mitsubishi 3.8 mivech v6 that all of a sudden wouldnt go into second, then after stopping it thought neutral was first and i could get into any other gears...hears the thing its under warranty i took it in they said that my shift fork broke along with my clutch plate, flywheel and release cylinder...it was 75 degrees and i wasnt racing...i was simply shifting like normal...i had recently mysteriously lost pressure in the pedal and addressed it with the dealership and nothing was done about it....my question is because they are repairing just the shift fork under warranty they are saying i am responsible for the clutch, flywheel and release cylinder because they are wearable parts...i wanna know if possible if these parts are related and if the shift fork could be responsible for the other parts failing.

thank you

Hi Chris,

You clutch is hydraulically operated and if the slave cylinder or master cylinder leaks then when you press on the clutch pedal nothing happens and you have a rough time getting into gear. If you force it you can break the shift fork. I don't know how you might have broke the flywheel, but resurfacing it is common and should be done each time you replace the clutch. The master or slave cylinders should be covered under warranty and it is one of these two parts that cause you to force it in to gear and break that fork. I would ask them to show you the clutch and explain why they are replacing it. Heat marks are always there so don't have them replace it because of that. Check the wear on it.

Answer
Second opinion would be my route. Ask them for the old parts and take them to a different garage. Sounds like they are stiffing you, which dealer service people go through hours beyond hours of training to do this. I have been there, have the t-shirt.
