Mitsubishi: Mitsubishi surging, maintenance job, transmission problem

Question
Hi Dinger
I have a 1998 Mits Galant 2.4 Viento GDI.  I first noticed the car seemed to have a lull at the traffic lights.  A mechanic looked at it and could not find a problem, I thought that it must have just been me.  I have just had the muffler welded and since the battery was disconnected the motor has been surging, eg when start in morning to reverse out of garage and put it in gear it seem to rev high and surge.  I have also noticed that went idling the idle goes up and down and also at times the motor dies. I don't know if it coincidental but since the battery has been disconnect the GPS system that also runs the CD stacker keep flickering and doesnt function properly.  What can you suggest.  I have had another mechanic look at it and he is telling me that its probably something to do with the throttle boot (?) but because I have a warranty with cardealer felt like he was trying to tell me that it was just a maintenance job and trying to fob me off.

Answer
Hi Nicola

Sounds like a transmission problem. If you are under warranty at the place you purchased it from, you need to go to them and have them repair it. It also could be a bad ECU because of the second part of the question. I would have the dealer also look into that issue as soon as possible.
