Mitsubishi: my 95 eclipse, intake air temperature sensor, intake air temp


Question
i found a kink in a house running to and from the EGR valve and the intake manifold. could this have effect for the reason the code for the EGR flow to come up?

hey im haveing some trouble with my 1995 2.0 gs eclipse.  in the morning when i crank it up it idles real ruff and almost everytime i push the clutch in the rpms go up from 1,000 to about 2,500 and stays there for a good 5 secs. it runs really great besides this trouble that im having ... i have also notice an increase of gas useage... im only getting about 22 miles per gallon...so  these are the codes that came up wen i got it checked:
PO401- EGR Insufficent flow; PO113-Intake air temperature sensor circut high input; and P1390- ignition system or misfire.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for having this info ready. Makes it so much easier. Replace the Intake Air Temp Sensor first. This should clear up the EGR problem. If it takes out the EGR code then the misfire code will also be gone. We still may have to replace the EGR, but try this first.
It's located mid engine, fire wall side, of course. Looks to be a 14mm or so. Hey, I just found a TSB talking about a broken wiring harness to the IAT sensor! Where the big spaces are where pics. We can't send pics in this media.

DTC 58 - INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR HARNESS

PURPOSE
On some affected vehicles, the CHECK ENGINE light may come on and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 58 may set due to a breakage in the wiring harness at the air intake temperature sensor connector (A-57).

This bulletin describes how to install a new pre-wired connector to correct this condition.

AFFECTED VEHICLES
1995-97 Eclipse models equipped with 2.0L non-turbocharged engine

PROCEDURE



 



1. Locate the air intake temperature sensor and its connector A-57 at the back side of the intake manifold.

2. Carefully inspect the condition of the wiring harness at connector A-57. The wires could be damaged inside the connector and/or under the wire insulation.

a. If the wiring harness is not damaged, STOP. Do not continue with this procedure. Refer to the troubleshooting procedure for DTC 58 in Group 13A of the appropriate service manual.

b. If the wiring harness is damaged, continue with Step 3.





 



3. Remove connector A-57 from the wiring harness.

4. Solder a new connector (listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin) to the wiring harness. Attach the black/green wire to terminal A. Attach the brown/blue wire to terminal B.

5. After soldering the wires, apply 3M Electrical Moisture Sealant 06149 or equivalent around the solder joints.




 



6. Route the air intake temperature sensor harness under the vacuum hose as shown.

7. Connect the harness to the intake air temperature sensor connector.

Nicely done! Yes, and this may take care of the AIT also! To clear the codes before you drive it, disconnect the battery and hold the neg and pos cables together for about 10 seconds. This will reset everything so you'll need to reset your clock and radio buttons!!! hehehe Please let me know how it works out! This is great!
