Mitsubishi: car, wheel bearings, dodge stealth

Question
Hey man, Im looking at buying a '93 3000 gt sl. 170,000 miles but with newer clutch and 15,000 on the engine for about $3500. Is this a dumb buy? How much better built is a 3000 compared to a dodge stealth? what are some problems I should look for in a car with this many miles. P.s. I don't really expect more than a year out of it and I'll put under 20,000 miles on it in that time. Thanks for helping a brother out.

Answer
Hi Jack,

First, 3's and Stealths come off the same assembly line. The only difference is the stickers. Chrysler owns Mitsubishi. If the car is average in condition with basic equiptment, the book value is about $4500. In my opinion, it is only a good deal if it is a good deal for you.

The types of problems to look for in a car of this milage are too numerous to list, but look for loose steering, tires, brakes, transmission (make sure it shifts smoothly into gear), noises from under the hood, alternator, water pump, power steering, smog pump, noises while driving, wheel bearings, etc... Hope this helps...
