Mitsubishi: mitsubishi check engine light, heart ache, transmission shop

I have a 1990 mirage and the check egine light comes on and goes off often.I can be driving at a normal speed then speed up the light will come on and go back off or if i am parked with the motor running and rev up the motor it will come on but it won't stay on. Any idea what i can cause this?  Thanks,Gary

Hi Gary,

Dozens of things can cause the CEL to come on, flicker, go on then off. I suggest taking your car to someone that can scan that year of Mitsubishi to get the codes stored in the computer. A Cottman transmission shop will do this for free. Once you have the codes, resubmit so I can tell you which direction to head to resolve this. Do not ignore this CEL. If you do it will lead to major problems in a short time. Just don't want to see you accidently cause yourself a heart ache because it might be a minor issue now, but major problem later on.
