Mitsubishi: mitsubishi hood latch cable, hood latch, vice grips

the hood latch cable on my 98 diamante has broken, and i cannot open the hood. is there any way possible to manualy open it from underneath? any suggestions are greatly appreciated.thank you

No, actually they make them so you can't break into them so depending where the cable broke, you'll want to try to grab it with a good pair of vice-grips. The cable is available from the dealer Part #AW343260 for about $22.50. Book time calls for 1.8 hours and about a six pack. Where the cable connects to the latch will be rough to get to. If you plan on replacing the cable, try to follow it from the latch to a place you can get a good grip on the sheath and pull the sheath off to get to the cable it's self. I suggest getting the cable first so when you have the hood up you can start working on it. Hope this helps.
