Mitsubishi: 2001 Mitsubishi Galant, torque converter clutch, torque converter clutch solenoid

Question
I actually just took it in to have the diagnostic read, and it said that the "shift selanoid d" was out, but when I talked to a transmission shop they said that wouldn't be causing the car to do what it is.  I'm about to give up and take the car into the shop.  If it is the computer, what should I expect to pay to have it replaced?

My car doesn't seem to want to run.  It runs fine for most of the day, and then mid-morning it starts and run for about a second, then dies.  This happens 6-8 times, then it starts and runs great for the rest of the day.  Yesterday it also stopped twice while I was driving.  When it stops it's sudden without any warning, and then it's the same struggle to get it to start.  However, the last time I started the engine it was fine.  Any thoughts as to what it could be?

Tough problem but I think you will find you have a bad PCM. The cars computer. You probably have a check engine light on when this happens. Actually, probably not. If this is the case it will be a bad computer. If your CEL is on then take it down to your nearest Cottman Transmission shop and have them scan it for free. Re-send this question with the code number and I can help you further.

Answer
Ah, ok... Shift solenoid "D" refers to the Torque Converter Clutch solenoid. The TCC only comes on when your vehicle reaches normal operating tempeture. So by what you have stated in your previous post, I think what is happening is it is not coming off and it makes the car act like a standard shift. In other words, when you come to a stop it's like not pushing in the clutch pedal and the car dies. Replacing this solenoid will likely take care of the problem. If you need help finding a shop that will do this repair without ripping you off I will need to know the area in which you live. I can point you in the right direction.
