Nissan: 1991 Nissan Maxima security system problem, nissan maxima, plastic lever

Just purchased the above mentioned vehicle.  The security system was causing the horn to honk constantly and wouldn't allow me to put the car in drive so I disconnected the fuse.  Can you instruct me on what I need to do to reset the system?

Answer
You have to reset it using the key in either front door or the trunk. The little plastic lever inside the doors usually breaks and the magnetic arm will not turn off the alarm. You may have to open the doors up and find out which one is bad and replace it. If not you can simply unplug the main control unit and not use the alarm
