Nissan: 2000 Nissan Maxima Odometer, nissan maxima, mileage check

Question
I recently replaced the entire instrument cluster ($75 from salvage yard) in my 2000 Nissan Maxima.  The car has about 111,000 miles on it. The new odometer read 7,000.  I was told by my local dealer that they could reset a new odometer ($1000) but that would not reset a used one.  Is it possible to reset the used one by some how reading the mileage off of the ECM?

Answer
Tuff one. No you cant use the ECM to reset it. I wouldnt worry about it. Make a record of the mileage on the old cluster and engrave it in the door jam. Just tell whoever buys it one day of the actual mileage. Check with your local motor vehicle, they may require you to record the change.
