Nissan: 1995 Nissan Altima, nissan altima, ball joint

Question
I am in the process of changing an axle on my daughter's car. In the process of disassembling the lower ball joint I accidentally ripped the grease boot badly. I tried to get a new boot and was told they don't make them and I would have to buy a new ball joint. The book says the ball joint is not replaceable and I need to replace the transverse arm. Seems awful costly to get a new grease boot. My question is how do I replace the ball joint if it can be replaced? If it can't is there some way to get around buying a $200 dollar part just to get a new grease boot?

Answer
They are correct and it sucks!! First how big is the hole? If its not to big I suggest cleaning the outside of the boot and using black silicone to fill in the hole. If you do this it must be allowed to dry overnight. If the hole is not repairable then simply drive the car until it make noise and then replace the lower arm assy. You have nothing to loose at this point.
