Oldsmobile/Buick: 86 custom cruiser windshield washer, windshield washer, hose line

Question
My daughter bought an Olds wagon & moved up here (NY)from New Orleans. The windshield washer doesn't work. The hose attached to the cap hanging in the resevoir seems clear, as do the hoses to the washer exits. When the washer is activated, there may be a drop or bubbles coming from the washers, but no stream to speak of. There's a unit on the side of the wiper motor, but I'm not sure it's the problem. She can't drive around here like that in the winter ! Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Bob,
Here's what I'd do. Go to the parts store and buy new rubber hose line and replace all the old ones. Over time, there could be a blockage of trash somewhere. If that doesn't work, then you have a bad washer pump. Most part stores carry a rebuild kit for a few bucks, or may have a universal replacement pump. I doubt that you will be able to get a new GM replacement since they no longer make stuff for the 1986 year. Last recourse would to be finding any 1986 car in a junkyard and removing the pump. Hope this helps! Ray
