Answer
Hi Kenyon,
Well, I've checked with the best authenticating source I know of for the 1975 Hurst. Suprisingly, there are many things about the 75, that deviated from the original Hurst concept by 1975. First, I was was corrected on a few things. The Vin# is correct for a 1975 Hurst/Olds. The authentication is the second, third, and fourth, charecters in the Vin match the body cowl tag J57. The letter A is a reference letter. It was not uncommon for the interior to be other than black or white as Hurst originally intended. Colors such as tan & white, red, and blue, and yes even the color green. So, does this make the car more rare? Not exactly. What does is that it was a W-30 and not the W-25. By 1975 not many splurged for the hungry 455. Using stock Cutlass color combinations saved building costs once the car arrived at Hurst. Sounds like the green stripes was added by the owner.
So it sounds like you've found a genuine H/O! The only drawback to the '75 is the T-tops or the "Hurst Hatches" as they were called and leaked like crazy. The rubber weatherstripping is no longer availiable, nobody make them or at least currently. So remember your own your own fabricating should it ever need replacing. Should you get the car, I urge you to join the Hurst/Olds Club Of America. Also, the Hurst/Olds list on yahoo groups will put you in touch with many owners. Myself and a guy named Mike run the list. (incidentally he's the '75 expert)
You can join for free. Hope this info helps you, I learned something as well about the '75. Good luck!
