Pontiac: `87 Pontiac 6000 SE - ERC, volt source, pontiac 6000

Question
I have an 87 6000 SE Station Wagon with a broken ERC senser.
Can I wire in a switch to operate the Air Compressor, that inflates the shocks?  If so where can I find a wiring diagram of the switch?

Answer
A wiring diagram can be found in either a Haynes or Chilton manual that you can get at local parts stores, or the factory service manual but those are ususually 80 to 120 dollars.

Although, a diagram is not necessary.  If you find the connector that goes to the compressor, and find out which is the wire that provides power when the switch would normally indicate a condition where inflation is needed.  This would be the switched power source, which you want to replace with a switch.  You might need a voltmeter to find out what wire is for what.  Once that is done, you would have to follow the wires to the relay, because it will be at a relay, because any current drawn by the compressor would fry a swtich.  Then find the wire that has no power to it, make sure it's not ground, and that will be your swithced source coming from the sensor.  Right there you could cut and splice in a switch with the other end going to a constant 12 volt source. When you swithc it on, the compressor turns on until you switch it off.
As for deflation, I don't know exactly how that works, but looking at a diagram might make it more obvious.

Hope this helps.
