Pontiac: on a 1997 pontiac grand prix, pan gasket, rubber bushings

Question
Mr. Martinez

Thank you first for your time.  I just got my oil changed and i was reading the comment`s section and ran across a statement that said there is a possible frame oil drippage.  First what is this? and secondly what would I do to repair it?

Thank you again for your time and cooperation.

Answer
What this probably means is that oil was dripping off the frame, which is pretty common if you have bad oil leaks on the engine.  I don't know why it would say POSSIBLE frame oil drippage, that makes no sense whatsoever.  Basically what can be happening is oil from either the engine or transmission oil pan is leaking out somewhere near the frame and it drips onto the frame, and leaks off of there, and gets the frame all oily.  Technically, nothing bad can happen from it unless you NEVER check your oil, but other than that it really doesn't do too much bad. Only if it gets on some of the suspension components this could be a problem because the oil could deteriorate the rubber bushings in the suspension.
Regardless, I would get it checked and ask where the oil is leaking from if any.  It will most likely be the oil pan gasket that is bad, or the transmission oil pan gasket.  If they do tell you which one is bad, my recommendation is to go to a GM dealer and order the proper gasket, because in most cases people will not replace it with the very high quality factory seal which is silicone, and they will use a cheap cork one which leaks easily.  It will be worth your money to buy the Dealer gasket.  You could actually check for leaks yourself, just take a look under the front of the car and see if there are little oil droplets ready to drop from anywhere under there.  If you do see oil, then take it somewhere to find out what exactly is leaking.  This might save you money, because it might be there is no leak, and then you would have paid someone to do something you could do yourself.

Hope this helps.
