Pontiac: seats, windows, rear defroster, rule of thumb

Question
I`ve been driving my 1994 Firebird for about 2 years. Is there any way I can raise the seat? Is there any way I can do it myself? If not, how do I get the best deal? Also, how do I search for someone to tint my windows? How can you prevent it from getting the little bubbles in it? What is a good deal for window tinting? Is there any way to get rid of the little rattling sounds a car makes with age?
Thanks

Answer
Unfortunately there is no simple way to raise the seat.  It is possible but could also be dangerous, so I won't even mention it.

As for tint, the bubbles are caused by a shabby installation and by the heat produced by the rear defroster, which is where bubbles are usually found.  Most good tint places will do a good job of tinting the rear and most likely you will never get bubbles.  A good rule of thumb is to look around town and look for cars with nice tint all the way around, and look on the side windows for the installers label, usually they stick a label of theirs between the glass and tint, saying who they are, and that the darkness is legal.  Will say something like VESC 20 compliant.
If you see good tint jobs all with the same label of installer then that would probably be your best bet... in most cases their phone number is on the label.  As for the bubbles, there is nothing you can do to prevent it.
And the installer does not guarantee against that.  Also, if you have rear defrost and you ever decide to REMOVE the tint, you will most likely remove most of the defroster along with it, sometimes.  Then you'd be left with a partially working defroster, and replacing it is VERY expensive, usually requires the purchase of the whole glass.

As for rattles, Pontiacs, especially the sports cars such as the Firebird and my Fiero are pretty bad about rattles and creaks.  The best thing to do is keep after them RIGHT AWAY as you hear them.  Find the source and fix it.  I always do it with my Fiero and creaks and squeaks have gone down since I bought it but as long as there are OLD parts on the car you won't ever be able to get rid of all the noises.  Just keep at it, that's the only advice I can offer, NEVER BE SATISFIED with how it is, just keep on looking for it and you'll find a way to fix it.  Maybe a screw went lose, or something needs some taping down, or lubricating, etc.

Hope this helps
