Saab: how to change radiator in 1992 saab 900, drain coolant, radiator hose

Question
how to change a radiator in 1992 Saab 900 radiator

Answer
Michael:
The job of changing a radiator is actually quite easy, requiring the removal of only a few bolts, a couple of electrical connectors, and several hose clamps. Specifically, you do the following:

a. Remove the two upper bolts holding the radiator frame to the front grill frame
b. drain coolant into a secure container for proper disposal (unscrew black plastic drain plug on lower passenger side of radiator)
c. remove electrical connectors from fan and fan switch(latter is found on upper driver's side of radiator)
d. Remove hose clamps and hoses from overflow tank (small driver's side hose) and large upper hose(passenger side)

At this point consider removing hood...with two people its simple...  with you alone, not recommended. The hood is removed by unscrewing two bolts (one at each bracket), disconnecting the windshield washer hose and simply picking it up and off.
e. Remove distributor cap and rotor setting cap and wires aside
lift out radiator, exposing lower radiator hose for clamp removal; remove clamp and hose and take radiator out fully
f. unscrew and exchange fans if necessary

Reverse the above and refill with coolant; sometimes upon refilling with coolant, an air bubble forms resulting in what appears to be an overheating condition...there is (on most 900s) a bleeder valve atop the thermostat housing...when refilling, open this until fluid runs out. Simply continuing to run the engine even with out bleeding will eventually 'clear' the bubble and restore normal operation
