Saab: key wont turn, saab dealer, return spring


Question
I have a 1999 saab 9-3 turbo. when i got off work last night i got in the car and the key would not turn.yes its in reverse and yes i checked the steering lock is there anything else i can do? i am three hours away from any saab dealer. Please help

About the only thing you can do is either disassemble the center console/shift hand housing yourself, or have a knowledgeable mechanic do it. Once disassembled, you would need to restore the reverse lockout return spring (the usual culprit), although, I have frequently solved the problem by removing the reverse lockout function completely...on an older car, the extra theft protection is probably unwarranted.
