Saab: SAAB 900 Turbo Check engine light, camshaft position sensor, saab 900 se

Question
I have 1997 SAAB 900 SE Turbo. The check engine light came on, code PO340 "Camshaft Position Sensor A- Bank 1". What does that mean. Can I still drive the vehicle without causing additional problems?

Answer
As noted in my profile, my hands-on experience is limited to the older 9pre-1992) 900s. The response can therefore only be a general one.
You can still drive the car, but at reduced performance and possible increased emissions. The net result is that valve timing is set to a default level but is not adaptable to changing conditions.
I would recommend investing in access to a website <www.alldatadiy.com>, which gives the very best and complete info on your vehicle. $25/year/vehicle, but well worth it.
