Saab: Immboliser problems with Saab, saab 900 s, saab 900

I have a convertible 1997 Saab 900 Se, the immboliser has stopped working, we can get into the car with the key but the alarm goes off and cannot be turned off and the car will not start.  I have been to a Saab garage and they say it will cost over £900 to fix as to do so they will have to override the whole system.  Is there a way to bypass the system?

 I am sorry, but my personal expertise is limited to the earlier SAAB 900's only. Therefore, I cannot answer the issue of disabling the immobilizer. However, I can recommend a website <www.alldatadiy.com> that provides the most comprehensive repair information on any vehicle that I have ever encountered. It costs $25/year/vehicle, but I believe is well worth it if you can save sunstantial money in the process.
