Saab: My 1995 Saab SE Turbo/Convertible stopped on me......, auto junkyard, christmas rush

Question
My grandaughter and I were shopping in the Christmas rush, and we had just left out of a parking lot and heard some kind of rattling noise on the passengers side in the front. ai thought I had ran over a plastic bag and it had stuck under the car. The sound eased up and I merged out into traffic crossing over to get into a turning lane. The noise returned a little more clear and it kinda sounded like maybe some sparking going on. Immediately I looked at my temp. gauge and it was fine then it totally quit on me. We smelled something. I tried to start it back and it wouldn't start. All the guages lit up but when I turned the key all the way it acted like the battery was dead. I would suspect the battery but it is new and the smell puzzels me. A guy stopped by to 'jump me off' and it reacted the same. I am having a really bad financial time, which is why I am resorting to writing to you, and I am going to have to try to fix this myself. Please give me any help you can with this problem. Thank You and Merry Christmas!

Answer
As stated in my 'profile', my personal expertise is limited to 1990 and earlier SAABS. However, I CAN give some general comments as to what appears to be a problem with one of the system relays chattering. This means that the plug-in module is not functioning properly. The problem is identifying the correct one. You did NOT mention if the 'rattling' noise persists. If it does, it should guide you to the culprit. Once identified, finding one at an auto junkyard would be a safe ,economical,, bet. Wish I could be more definitive. Hope this helps.
