Saab: 1995 Saab (moneypit), saab 900 se, saab 900

Question
I have been fixing my 1995 Saab 900 SE Turbo since the day I bought it.  My car I guess has electrical issues because my back lights sometimes stay on even if my lights and car is off so it has killed my battery- I bought a new battery now when I start my Saab and hit the break it stalls on me, I used to just start it back up while in motion but now it doesn't start, someone guessed it could be the fuel pump because my car was acting like it wasn't getting gas to start up.  It acts like its going to start but just doesn't fully turn over, does this sound like my fuel pump or could it possibly be something smaller and less expensive? Any help and input would help so much, thank you.

Answer
Dear A:
Sounds like you got a lemon...perhaps it was once flooded since your symptoms point to a short circuit in the wiring harness somewhere. Unfortunately, as my quals stated, I am NOT intimately familiar with any SAABS newer than 1990 so I cannot be of specific help. What I can say, however, is that you need to get the original factory manual (or one by BENTLEY only) not Chilton's or any of the other cheaper "amateur" aftermarket ones that do not give detailed info. Once you get that or even better, subscribe to <www.alldatadiy.com> for your specific vehicle. It gives one year of VERY DETAILED online info. Then you can logically search for the source of the short. for example what function affects what other function...do they share a common wiring connector or wire bundle. Once you find the affected wires (corrosion, etc. then you will need to clean/rewire, re-insulate the bundle or connector. Lots of tedious work, but I am afraid there is no other way that I know of.

               Hope this helps
