Saab: key will not turn, saab 9000 cse, wiggle room

Question
I know you specialize in pre-1991 Saabs but would you try to answer this anyway? The ignition key will not turn on my 1997 Saab 9000 cse, automatic. A few year ago, I had a part replaced in the ignition because after starting the key would not spring back. That fixed the spring back problem but occasionally the key would not turn at all and I would pull the key out and reverse it etc and it would be no problem. I went out this morning and the key will not budge at all and the steering wheel has almost no wiggle room. The car is parked on a flat surface with the front wheels turned slightly so it is not like the wheels are jammed up against a curb. I suspect that the part installed for the spring back problem was not quite installed correctly and now has failed. What do you think. What part do you think I need? Thank you - I really appreciate it.

Karen:
I suspect the key cylinder has failed. However, I once fixed such a problem that had occurred due to a tiny item falling into the key slot and thus the key could not go all the way in. Believe it or not, the owner's watch band came apart and the tiny pin holding the band to the watch body was the culprit!!
In any case, the shift lever-key console will need to be disassembled and most likely the cylinder will need replacement.
