Saab: Ignition key cylinder removal, mcmaster carr, spst switches

Question
How do you remove the key cylinder on a 1984 900 turbo with auto trans? I have everything removed up to the gear shift housing which is loose from the floor but cable still connected. The old cylinder came out and need to install a new one.

Thanks

Answer
I got to perform this task once before on my first Saab (standard). It's kind of a pain in the neck. I had another ignition cylinder shear out this year and decided to scrap the ignition with a key altogather. I now have 2 spst switches and a momentary for starting my 87. I have never worked on an auto matic Saab but the steps are proby similer.
Memory is kind of vague, but as I recall you follow these steps:
1. Remove center console
2 bolts in rear via rear ashtray
2 bolts under rubber thing at front between lower dash and console
2 under transmission stick (manual) boot
2. The ignition cylinder should be mounted into a single aluminum housing fairly long and narrow. Remove mounting bolts, 3 or 4
A Couple of them are security bolts (external star)-a pain in the ass. I machined an adaptor but you can proby find the right bit on from McMaster-Carr, go online

3.As I recall, you need to place a key in the cylinder and turn it either to the acc or ac mode.

4. Take the housing you removed the mounting bolts to a turn 90 deg.

5. Their should be a pin hole on the side of where the cylinder is located. Place a pin in their and the cylinder should pop out.

Hope this helps. You might be able to find pics of the above procedure online if you do a little searching.
