Toyota: toyota braking system, 1985 toyota sr5, toyota sr5 pickup

Question
I have a 1985 toyota SR5 pickup.  If both rear brake lines are leaking is there any safety devices in place on vehicle that will alert me when the fluid level is to low to safely drive vehicle.

Answer
1985...  I'm thinking that there should be a sensor in the brake fluid resovoir to tell you that you are below the minimum but PLEASE don't depend on that.  Check with your eyes because that sensor can be non-fuctional and you could put yourself at risk by assuming that the level is fine.

I noticed that holding the brake pedal down during lights made my leak gush more fluid so I got into the habit of pulling the e-brake at lights until I got my hose and replaced it.  In three weeks, I went through ONE big bottle of brake fluid.  I forgot how many ounces it had but it was the biggest size available for Valvoline DOT3/DOT4 Synthetic brake fluid.

Now, the easy fix is to replace your brake hoses.  I'd feel ALOT happier if you did too because you are only putting your life and the other drivers on the road at risk.

Hope this helps and feel free to write back should you need anything else.
