Toyota: blown fuse on toyota camry station wagon 1992, proper cables, blown fuse

Question
Hey again David

The car has been working fine for well over two weeks now, so there has been some major improvement! I cant claim to have fixed it cos I havent done anything since all the little changes I made last month to the battery connectors plus the replacement of the regulator. I get a feeling its a mixture of all the above which helped since it has been gradually improving with each thing Ive tried. In any case, after replacing the regulator, the fuse has only blown once (the day after it was done). since then, the car has been running fine. i did try and check the main ground and couldnt spot anything wrong. In any case, you mentioned there was a website with info about grounding (although for the 5SFE) and yes, Id be interested in keeping that as a reference. Since the car seems ok currently, Im not going to try and touch anything unless it happens again!

Kind Regards

Marc

Answer
Alright, here's the link...  It took me a while to find it but I've got it:)  Essentially, the idea is to redo the grounding from Toyota with better wires.  For my grouding, I believe I used 8ga. all the way around except for the battery ones which are 4ga.  I also did a direct 4 ga. connection from the alternator to the positive terminal but have a fuse between them (100amp fuse).  I spent about...  60 bucks for everything but it was PROPER cables, terminals, and distrbution block.

The ToyotaNation thread below should answer ALL the questions you have.  I'm sure that after you read it you'll probably undertake the "hypergrounding":)

Did I notice a change after I did?  My sounds system (STOCK) sounds better, the lights are a smidge brighter, and start-up was a bit crispier in sound:)
